JAMMU, August 21: As part of the nationwide series of “Mehangai Pe Charcha” Congress meetings across all Assembly constituencies from August 17-23 which will culminate with the Mehangai Par Halla Bol mega rally at Ramlila maidan in Delhi on August 28, JKPCC General Secretary and former MP Thakur Balwan Singh along with former MP TS Bajwa, former Minister Ch Garu Ram and others led a rally at RS Pura against rising prices.
Speaking on the occasion, Balwan Singh said Modi government came to power with false promises on inflation, foreign policy etc but failed on all fronts and that people were suffering a lot. He said Congress would continue to pressure the central government if rising inflation was not brought under control.
“We are going to make the BJP government wake up and bow down. It is shameful that the Modi government has continued to raise petrol, diesel and LPG prices at a time when people across the country are still facing hardship due to the corona pandemic,” he said. he declared while addressing the inhabitants of RS Pura.
Singh pointed out that inflation is exacerbated by higher taxes on essentials like curds, buttermilk and packaged food grains, while the transfer of state assets to crony capitalists and the introduction of the Agnipath scheme misguided make a bad job situation worse,” he said.
He said that due to inflation the cost of living is rising and everyone is being hit hard. the ordinary man struggles to survive. Congress will continue to raise awareness of these anti-people policies and increase pressure on the BJP government to change course.
Former MP Bajwa claimed that India’s 50 million poor, comprising socially and economically weaker sections in rural areas and urban slums, are being pushed into extreme poverty by inflation. Falling wage rates, Covid-19, high rural unemployment, income inequality and high food inflation have far-reaching implications for India’s trajectory towards poverty reduction. The poor are still recovering from the disastrous effects of Covid-19, while inflation is having a diabolical impact on the poor.
JKPCC SC cell chairman Karan Bhagat accused Prime Minister Modi of ignoring the critical issues facing the country and sought to know when he would hold an interactive session on rising inflation. He said the prime minister was engrossed in organizing various types of Charcha’ but did not seem to have time to tackle pressing issues such as inflation, slow economic growth and rising unemployment . The prime minister is ignoring the country’s burning issues, he added.
Former Minister Ch Garu Ram and CPC Secretary Pawan Raina also spoke on the occasion.
